Despera needs wings
Cuz she leans on some things.
Tell her a Heaven exists
Though we’ve held our love back
To disguise.
Tell her rhetoric will teach us
That in the end
There may be no one there to meet us.
Tell her that none of us
Are more perfect than she is.
She’s learned her Scripture
From depending on lessons.
Some things work out
Some things stay hidden
We learn the most
From doing the forbidden.
We’ve held our love back in disguise
For flaming dark looks
And inward urgent eyes
Our Rhetoric may beseech her
But from the beginning
There was no one there
To teach her.
No one can say they could ever
Really reach her.
Despera needs wings
Because she leans on our things
Those flaming inward urgent looks
The stuff we hope to get from books
Because she was out
And doesn’t know a thing
Because she was out
Doing the forbidden,
Exposing rhetoric as
What will not be a given.
