Muscle Poems

Revenge of the Heard

By and by a woman who writes love poems to men

—for Joseph

One day I woke up on a Sunday

And got dressed and ready for school.

They took me to church instead

And I felt like a fool!

The next week I woke up on

A Saturday ready for class.

Cartoons and pancakes were on

And I collapsed and passed gas!

I knew this was a miracle but the

Weekend wouldn’t last.

So I ran and put my pajamas on backwards

And fell on the grass!

“Thank you!!” I said and I laid down

To see clouds.

But I fell back asleep and

Attracted a crowd!

The kids poked me

To see if I was dead.

I said, “Oh my God,

Where is my bed!?”

My daddy came into my room

One morning on a day, don’t know when

He said it was Monday

And a rainy day then.

I said I felt hot and the rain

Was so cool.

Daddy took his hand to my head

And said, “You’re not going to school.”

I laid there in shock.

That’s three days off!

He brought pancakes, cartoons,

Pillows and socks.

This was the coolest week

And it blew my socks off!
