Muscle Poems

Revenge of the Heard

By and by a woman who writes love poems to men

When you are lost in a sea of dark thoughts

That hold you in sorrow and keep your heart locked,

When only cares and wants girdle your life

And plague you with mourning and endless strife

Know prayer holds you up in the morn of

God’s Infinite Light.

Long ago and always, the saints spoke of our souls,

Saying we are as Job in his witness when he met only woes.

Job fasted and prayed, he knelt as he spoke:

“Fasten prayer to your understanding

Cling to nothing

But ask to be free

Of the image of life that seems dreadful and dour

Fasten thy prayer although weak

In thy holy noon hour.”

His eyes uplifted

He rose naked but cold

Arose naked and free

And full in his power.
