Muscle Poems

Revenge of the Heard

By and by a woman who writes love poems to men

I closed down the volume,

Tested the world,

Defeating the purpose.

While out of my range

Of hearing, I wanted

To be followed as if

I had stormed out of the room.

I made a mess, I fell down

I shoved the table too

Did you hear it?

Did you notice?

I was chasing after you.

Stole the sight from the David

Left me shivering and naked.

Closing down the volume

On our absent lovemaking.

If you had called me,

I would’ve heard you.

Surviving you to keep

The politics of home

Is to keep things very neat.

Masks were always permitted

Truth was always well hidden

To slip and fall

And hope to die

From the chill of

The vacancy of your eyes

Stole the sight from David

Left me shivering and naked

Closed down the volume

On our absent lovemaking

I fell in a hole

Outside in the world

I tested the waters again

You ran after me and past me.

You got older than me then.

A helping hand pushed through,

A Michelangelo in bloom.

If your hand can lift my weight,

I may cry and and let go

Of the grip of the deep.

Suspended, hanging

And swooped off my feet.
